INTRICT - JOB CLIPPINGS HW

For this week's assignment, Sir Oli asked us to get 25 IT job postings from http://www.jobstreet.com and http://www.jobsdb.com.
Actually, its my first time to visit these sites.. haha :))
so here it is :) :

MY 25 IT JOB LISTINGS

He also asked us to list the TECHNICAL SKILLS, NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS, and RESPONSIBILITIES that we found and tally using bar graph. :)

For the TECHNICAL SKILLS, these are the results:
( I separated the graphs because there are so many technical skills and it would make the font size smaller if I placed them in 1 whole graph)
As you can see, MYSQL ,C#,C++ Language, and Java got the most number of technical skills preferred by companies. I guess that's good news for us ICTM students since we're taking Java lessons under INTPRG. Now i know that I have to take it seriously in order to get a good job.

I'm not aware of PMI Standard,XML, CSS, Crystal Report, Word Perfect, CICS, and IMS. This is the first time I encountered these programs. Now, my question is are we going to learn about these things?
These are my findings for the Non-technical skills, all of the companies requires that the applicants are graduate of any computer-related course like Computer Science and Information Technology. Some of the companies would also need someone who is willing to work with a team because as they say two heads are better than one and making a project would require sharing ideas and knowledge to make something perfect. :) Another skill in demand is having good communication skills both oral and written. This is important in making reports, plans, and any activity wherein you have to present something. One more thing, anything we do or say reflects not only ourselves but also the companies we are working for. Other non-technical skills are being a strong problem solver and a fast learner. Now I know what qualities I need to work on so that companies would hire me. In order to develop these, I need to work on being responsible, a hard worker, and being inventive.

In every job, there is an equivalent responsibility. In the IT field, often the responsibilities are participating in process and quality improvement initiatives. This is important to know what's happening in the company and to suggest new things for the improvement of the company's system. Another thing is the Web development or maintaining the company's website, as we all know that is the expertise of someone in the IT field. So it's a big responsibility because only an IT professional can do this job. One more thing, software defects are hard to be prevented so its his or her job to debug or maintain the company's software. Other responsibilities are unit testing of software and creating test plans.

With this Homework, I learned what skills I need to possess and as early as now that I'm in my freshman year I need to develop these skills in order to have a bright future ahead of me. :p

Microsoft Surface is a 30-inch tabletop wherein you can do so many things with its touch screen feature like photo sharing, painting, locating places and so much more. It make things less of a hassle :) All of these are possible without using a mouse or a keyboard!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!

Unfortunately, Microsoft Surface costs P4million :( so if you can afford this, pa try naman :))

INTRICT =thoughts to ponder during the first week :)

ok ok... I'm now in college!!! and I survived its first week :p I hope I can also survive the following weeks.

Sir Oli sent something via myINTRICT it says: Thoughts to ponder after the 1st week of sessions in INTRICT

So let me begin with the first question:

1. Where else I can maximize Google and its apps for my work in
INTRICT?

Honestly, I'm not really a Google user because I'm more of a Yahoo user but when I learned about the different functions of Google, I realized that Google is not just a search engine because it can do so many things. As a student, I can use its applications whenever I want to communicate with my family, friends, and if i need to ask sir Oli about INTRICT Google will make it possible. Also, the calendar feature of Google will help me manage my schedule, set appointments and it can also text me the things that I need to do. Thanks to this function for it would be easier for me to work because I'm more productive and I won't be forgetting things. Another feature is the Google documents, this will be very helpful especially for us college students. It can make us work and edit research papers together but on the internet. Believe it or not Google can do ALL of this.

2. What are other online applications out there that similarly support
my activities as a student?

During my High School days, the best online application I use is the Yahoo Messenger. Whenever we have group works, it's easy for us to chat as a group and talk about what we have researched. Unlike, the telephone wherein only two people can talk. Also, Yahoo groups is helpful whenever there are announcements and homeworks to make.

3. What exactly do I mean about productivity? How is productivity related to technology?

In my point of view, productivity is something you accomplish when work on something. When you're productive, it means that you're working properly. You know every single thing that you're going to do. Technology helps us to be productive because it makes things fast, organized and planned. With the continuous expanding of technology , It won't be difficult for us to work.

4. What Can I suggest to my parents to also improve their productivity?

For my parents, especially my mom who's very busy. I suggest that she use Gmail. The calendar feature will help her manage her schedule and meetings. In that way, she can avoid forgetting things like appointments. They also can use their cellphone in paying bills just like what SmartMoney offers. Being familiar with technology will improve their way of dealing with daily activities. :)
